Caution!
Certain GPSs only communicate position in hundredths of minutes (and not in thousandths). This precision for large scales will be insufficient and will cause an irregular track to appear on the chart. Certain GPSs must be configured by the user to send the position to the software in thousandths of a minute.

Caution! Generally the GPS is much less precise than the larger scales available in MaxSea. The position of your ship on the chart must therefore always be considered with care and correlated with the accuracy of the GPS used.

The software and its driver are delivered configured by default to be connected to a GPS which sends the standard positioning NMEA 183 chain ($GLL). This is the usual configuration for GPS on the market.

The computer features a RS 232 type input/output port (the Com 1 serial port, or the modem port on a Macintosh). This port is used for data acquisition. Connect your GPS to this port using the appropriate lead (see paragraph Connecting electronic equipment).
