Macintosh cable diagram
We invite you to always use an opto isolator. Refer to your dealer for
installation.
Meanwhile, you will find hereafter information to direct link electronic
equipment to your computer.
The serial ports of the Macintosh, as well as those of the internal PCI board
or the external SCSI unit, comply with standards used in marine electronics: RS
232 (NMEA 182), RS 422 (NMEA 183), RS 423 and TTL positive and negative logic.
They can be used to connect all the positionners and existing equipment on the
market to MaxSea.

Caution! Do not confuse the output pins (3 and 6) with the input pins (5 and 8). The space between pins 3 and 4 and between pins 4 and 5 is different, which
helps clear identification of the different pins.
Connecting electronic equipment
Caution! If the NMEA 183 standard specifies RS 422 type electrical characteristics, nearly all manufacturers adhere to the RS 232 standard. A positionner or other electronic equipment will be connected in NMEAÊ183 or RS 232 format in the following manner:
The connection of a positionner to the Macintosh will generally be limited to
2 NMEA 183 output wires from the positionner (GPS) on the (RxD) and ground
(Gnd) input pins of the Macintosh.
Refer to the technical manual for the positionner or the connected electronic
equipment to check applicable electrical standards.

Equipment TxD -> Macintosh RxD- (pin 5)
Equipment Gnd -> Macintosh Gnd (pin 4)
_______________________________________________________
If the manufacturer complies with RS422 type electrical characteristics, the connection will be as follows:
Equipment TxD- -> Macintosh RxD- (pin 5)
Equipment TxD+ -> Macintosh RxD+ (pin 8)
Note: the following MLR equipment uses standard RS422: GPS CM015, Rana CK03, Toran
MG02, Loran LRX22P. Other MLR GPS (Valsat 02 and 03) use an interface in
compliance with standard RS232.
Certain devices, for example, temperature sensors use a TTL type output. In
this case the connection should be as follows:
Equipment TxD -> Macintosh RxD+ (pin 8)
Equipment Gnd -> Macintosh Gnd (pin 4)
Connecting an automatic pilot
An automatic pilot should be connected to TxD output pins of the Macintosh.
Pilot using RS 232 characteristics:
Pilot RxD -> Macintosh TxD- (pin 3)
Pilot Gnd -> Macintosh Gnd (pin 4)
Pilot using RS 422 characteristics:
Pilot RxD- -> Macintosh TxD- (pin 3)
Pilot RxD+ -> Macintosh TxD+ (pin 6)
