Using the keyboard to enter positions

It is possible to plot points from the keyboard without using the mouse.

In order to enter the position of the points, firstly choose the type of point that you wish to record by selecting the corresponding tool in the Tools palette.

ð the Navigation tool tes00217.gif for entering route plan points,

ð the Waypoint tool tes00218.gif for plotting or adding waypoints,

ð the Plotting tool tes00219.gif for plotting personal marks (in this case choose the type, the icon and the color of the mark or object that you wish to plot from the mark type selection boxes in the Tools palette using the corresponding pop-up menus),

ð the Position Modification tool tes00220.gif for using the keyboard to insert the new position of a point (previously select the new point to be modified)

ð the Insert tool tes00221.gif to insert a point on a line (previously select the point after which insert the new point)

Then select the latitude by sliding the cursor into the corresponding zone of the Cursor display.

Enter the latitude of the point that you want to plot, followed by the TAB key tes00223.gif (to select longitude), then enter the longitude.

Press ENTER to confirm tes00224.gif.

The corresponding point (waypoint or personal mark) is displayed on the chart.

Since latitude is now selected, you can immediately plot the new point from the keyboard and thus link several points.

Note: you can replace the key ¡ (for degrees) by the key * (easier to use from the number pad). You can use the full stop or comma to separate the tenths of minutes from minutes.

Note: if you do not specify the sign (N or S for latitude, E or W for longitude), the software will place the sign in the center of the image.

Caution! The software works in thousandths of minutes and not in seconds. You can nevertheless only enter tenths or hundredths of minutes if this is not sufficiently precise (or even round up to the nearest minute).

You can use the keyboard to plot, not only isolated points but also lines or areas (when the selection of type in the Tools palette indicates Line or Area). To finish a line or an area, hold down the Shift key whilst you validate the last point by pressing ENTER tes00225.gif.
